The sad truth is no one will be held accountable, and there will be no trials or prosecutions for the countless innocents that have been killed in America's foreign wars. The result is that the politicians are further emboldened to wage even more wars in the future.

The American people must be careful not to let this administration lead them into yet another war, this time with Iran, with the same kinds of deception it used to justify the Iraq War.

Apathy in our modern industrialized world rules the day, particularly in the realm of politics. And in the United States it appears to reign supreme. That is exactly why we seem to be content. as if Tweedledee and Tweedledum truly represented both party in power and opposition; any other ideas being frowned upon....

One in three homeless Americans are military vets, and that figure is compounding. One in four vets with PTSD who sought medical care from the VA, regularly experienced a two to three month wait just to see a doctor as the ratio of doctors to patients is one doctor for every 500 patients. Over 53,000 soldiers are permanently wounded...

Our "peaceful" presidents have taken, perhaps, over a million Iraqi lives & limbs, & thousands of the same for Americans. No amount of yellow ribbons will bring back a single one of them, or make a single loss worthwhile. This, we must recognize, is part of the American way. In particular, we must first recognize it if we are eve

The recent trial - now a mistrial - of Lt. Ehren Watada brings to the forefront the fact that laws and conscience often coexist in disharmony, that society must of necessity find a way not to subordinate individual conscience to those laws; especially when they do not make allowances for relevant change.

The Presidential Election of 1796 was a water shed in American politics. George Washington historically declined to run for a third term. The two internal factions which had been struggling to gain the upper hand during his Presidency now developed into full-fledged, if Non Constitutional, political parties.

It would seem to me that somewhere in this history should be a learning experience. What is happening in the world today is not working. We are destroying the planet through greed, and terror. We are recognizing no laws but force. Human beings are reduced to statistics, and the statistics are buried to be forgotten.

As the US-Iran standoff escalates toward its inevitable denouement, analysts are busily gaming scenarios that may lead to the commencement of hostilities. Only the naive take solace in the illusion of peace, for it will take nothing less than a miracle of biblical proportions for either peace or de-escalation to prevail.

Unfortunately, Iran's geo-strategic location in Eurasia places that nation at odds with any superpower that may wish to exert undue influence in the region, for whatever reasons, as in the case of the United States. And the timing, after Bush's failure in Iraq, couldn't be any more propitious for placing Iran as a scapegoat for this president.

From Afghanistan to Iraq to Somalia and Darfur. War, war, and more war.

Our Constitution was written by men who knew at first hand what unbridled power could do. They had just fought a long and desperate war to free themselves from King George, who could dissolve the parliament at will, dictate the fate of anyone in his far-flung empire, and was also known to be a bit nuts.

No nation can maintain an empire abroad and a democracy at home. We are now about to pay for our empire, and the price is American freedom. This is the message of a new book by Chalmers Johnson.

Leaders who are determined to provoke war, who seem to have extreme political and religious agendas and who are willing to bring death and destruction are not unique to our times now. There have always been leaders who sought to acquire, use and abuse power for all the wrong reasons. Leaders like this have long been a threat to world peace...

The troop surge is about provoking and preparing war with Iran and has nothing to do with stabilizing Iraq. The plan is to escalate tension further so sectarian violence divides the Middle East along ethnic lines. It has always been divide and rule and time is running out...

Politicians love to posture as friends of particular groups - women, children and people suffering from a particular disease - by forcinginsurance companies to cover some medical procedure that's important to a target audience. But every time the government forces insurers to include another benefit in your policy, your premium has to go up.

An attack on Iran, which poses no immediate or imminent threat to the United States, would be the most heinous of international war crimes--a "crime against peace" violating the UN Charter and the Nuremburg Charter. It would also be a strategic disaster that would dwarf even the president's collassal strategic blunder in invading Iraq.

It should be clear by now - should have been clear long ago - that rulers of all kinds will cloak their most base and secret motives in the decent clothes of morality and goodness to win the approval of the masses.

The Military Commissions Act of 2006 is eerily similar to Germany's Enabling Act of 1933, the passage of which followed Germany's own "Sept. 11" in the burning of its parliament building, the Reichstag, on Feb. 27, 1933.

Place, once again (after a long absence), the Constitution and Bill of Rights, intact and functioning, in the halls of government and repeal the draconian legislation such as the misnamed Patriot Act, which essentially abrogates the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The problem isn't a lack of alternatives to expanding this war. It's finding the political courage to stand up to entrenched corporate interests and their toadies in government, both here and abroad, who have a stake in our continued commitment.

Rather than admit that his Iraq adventure has been an unmitigated disaster--one which has essentially handed the world's third largest oil-producing nation over to the control of its neighbor, Iran--Bush has decided to escalate the slaughter.

The difference between what U.S. citizens think their rulers are doing in the world and what these rulers actually are doing is one of the great propaganda achievements of history. In reality, the overriding goal of U.S. policy is to make the world ever safer and more profitable for the Fortune 500 and international finance capital.

There is a time to say "NO!" and this is it. No more money, no more troops, no more machinations. We need to fund whatever it takes to get us out of Iraq and that is all, period.

Saddam was intended to be an example of the prototype used in Saudi Arabia, America's biggest, yet untold, success story. Building all of those cities in the desert did more than rake in billions of dollars for private contractors. It cemented a relationship between the two countries that pictures of W & Saudi leaders holding hands only hint at

The Federal Reserve System exists only to serve its owners and member banks and in doing so is hostile to the public interest. That's because it's a banking cartel with the power to restrict competition for greater profits gained at our expense. It goes from our pockets to theirs, and the public loses in at least four ways...

Bush's request for up to 20,000 more combat troops for Iraq shouldn't come as a surprise. Neither should the fact that he's reshuffling his military and diplomatic teams to make room for an attack on Iran. So what can be done to help take back America?

So what's this talk about a surge? We still don't seem to get it, do we? It's not a new strategy for Iraq that's needed, but a strategy for the US! One with a sensible foreign policy that will allow this nation to reenter the community of peace-seeking nations. But our leader is anathema to that community. And we appear unwilling to impeach.

When someone commits a criminal act leading to mayhem, it is irresponsible not to deal with the mayhem. It is also irresponsible to allow the criminal who caused the mayhem to be the one dealing with it. Most irresponsible is the failure to hold the criminal accountable.
